Fashion: Swap It!

Detox, refresh, pamper and de-clutter – now is the time to spring clean on all fronts, and your wardrobe is a great place to start. The great news is that a full closet overhaul won’t necessarily break the bank. How so? Because, I’m delighted to announce that the ‘swap party’ craze has hit Krakow. They’re popping up everywhere, organised by fashion forward individuals and groups of friends. Even boutiques are getting in on the act.

The idea is simple: bring your unwanted clothes and accessories and swap with (or sell to) other people at the party. Every participant has a number, which is attached to the items they bring. When you find something you fancy, check the number, find the owner and swap or bargain.

It’s simple and great fun, especially since many swap parties feature extra activities such as make-up or fashion shows. Swap parties are often themed, with ‘80s’ and ‘vintage’ proving popular motifs.

Keep your eyes open – many swap parties take place in Krakow’s cafés. Miejsce in Kazimierz and the student club Żaczek are popular venues. There are also fantastic, organised parties, like the one shown here that took place in Innuendo Boutique. The message this spring: out with the old and in with the new. Happy hunting!
