Avalanche risk in Tatra Mountains

Travelers are advised that a recent warming and strong winds of up to 140 km/hr (87 mph) will create an increased risk of avalanches in the mountain range. TOPR, the Tatra Voluntary Rescue Squad which issued the warning, also cautions that the winds may also be strong enough to damage trees or houses. [Onet]

MOCAK to feature art by Mariam Ghani, daughter of Afhgan president

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow (MOCAK) has announced that on 21 February it will feature an exhibition on the multimedia artist and social activist Mariam Ghani. She was born in exile in New York City and unable to travel to Afghanistan until 2002 after the US-led coalition invasion, where her father is now the president. Her work uses video, photos, and installation to draw attention to human rights, diaspora, and other forms of global conflict and activism. The MOCAK exhibit in particular will focus on the plight of Indian farmers displaced by industrialization. [Gazeta Wyborcza]
