The European Commission has rejected a Polish request for more time to revise a law prohibiting two genetically modified food categories.

The World Bank has offered a committee of the Polish parliament ideas on streamlining the documentation process for construction and for registering new companies.

All Polish small- and medium-sized enterprises that want to gain foreign certificates may receive a national bailout. The government will reimburse the costs of consultative offers as well as the preparing and translation of the technical documents, the daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita reports.

The Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal have prepared their annual Economic Freedom Report. Poland has no reason to be proud. According to the 2008 Index of Economic Freedom which covers 162 countries and 10 specific freedoms – such as trade freedom, business freedom, investment freedom and property rights – Poland was far down the list at No. 83.

High property prices in Poland are prompting many developers to try and renegotiate their purchase contracts.

Everyone who travels by train in Poland has the same negative opinions about comfort and punctuality. Somebody has calculated that during one year all the trains in Poland were late a total of almost three years.

Many Polish dairies export milk, butter and whey abroad and count the profits. However there is, as always, the other side of the coin: the dairy owners who produce for the domestic market complain of high prices and a lack of milk because it is being bought up by exporters.
