THE KRAKOW POST

Minister of Education Roman Giertych has removed a number of influential writers from the reading curriculum at schools, according to Polish Radio. Among them were: Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Franz Kafka, Joseph Conrad, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Gustaw Herling-Grudzinski, Stanislaw Witkiewicz and Witold Gombrowicz.

In their place, the ministry has proposed books written by or about authors born in Poland. These include works by Pope John Paul II and Polish Nobel Prize laureate Henryk Sienkiewicz, author of ?Quo Vadis.?  The newly proposed curriculum will be open to suggestions and comments from the public for two weeks, Giertych said. The final list will be confirmed after June 20, TVN24 reported.
