"""Save from Oblivion"" photographic competition winners and over 80 finalists are now on exhibition at MCK Gallery, Krakow.

This year, the Cracow Heritage Society staged its first international edition in the competition's 30-year history. The society invited photographers from across Poland and abroad to share their impressions of the city.

The competition's aim was to present the city's unique nature, its inhabitants and architecture in an artistic, unconventional and creative way. Photographs exhibited document the present while paying tribute to visions of the past.

Joanna Gorlach was presented the first prize and 1,000 euro at the Nov. 29 award ceremony for her intriguing photographs of the Plaszow Concentration Camp memorial. Gorlach is mostly interested in portraiture, but calls Krakow her ""inspiration"" and an ""inexhaustible treasury of locations.""

Second prize was awarded to Krakow local, Joanna Radlowska for her ""Bonarka"" series. Despite having spent her whole life in Krakow, Radlowska says the city keeps surprising her with new objects and hidden details nearly every day.

Norbert Roztocki's project presenting the everyday life of the monks from Bielany monastery earned him a third place.
The Krakow Post staff journalist, Adelina Krupski, received an honorable mention for her pictures documenting the defunct Wawel chocolate factory's demolition

Krupski describes Krakow as a ""paradise"" for photographers, ""It's a gorgeous, very unique and visually beautiful place,"" she said.

The photographic exhibition is on display at the International Cultural Center (Rynek Glowny 25) until March 2, with an accompanying album of selected works available in Polish and English.
