Artificial Beach in Silesia

The city of Chorzow in Silesia has opened an artificial beach.

Deck chair, sand between toes, cool drink in hand, plus the rumble of streetcars and the roar of car engines. Chorzow joins Berlin, Paris, London, Birmingham and other European cities in having a man-made beach downtown.

The beach is on the shore of the canal in the Provincial Culture and Recreation Park, or Wojewódzki Park Kultury i Wypoczynku. It's near the Kapelusz ("Hat") exhibition arena. There is everything you need to forget about work or household duties: hot sand, umbrellas, deck chairs, a bar, even beach volleyball.

With hot temperatures forecast this weekend will come a throng of sun bathers. The beach is open from noon until late at night. It has been fenced, so parents don't have to be worry about their children. This little slice of paradise is the perfect place for kids during the day and a good chill-out zone for adults in the evening. And best of all, admission is free.
