Krakow's chefs will attempt to make the biggest pizza in the world this weekend, at a free day of concerts and entertainment at the city's Błonia Commons. Organisers Pizzeria Magillo and Makro cash and carry will fire up the ovens for the record attempt, on 29 August at noon.

Throughout the day there will be entertainment, hosted by Vito Casetti and Paolo Cozza. There will be games and activities for families and children, music from Mono Team and Francesco de Napoli, and of course pizza tasting. The event will close with a fireworks display in the evening.

Although entry is free, there will be collections throughout the day for the Akogo charity. This was founded in 2002 by Polish actress Ewa Blaszczyk, to help children who suffer severe brain injuries. The foundation also supports their families - and aims to fund a new rehabilitation clinic.

It actually beat the record, I was so pleased! Wish I'd been there though, I loooooooove pizza. Did Makro supply the ingredients? Would definitely have been good PR for them and I suspect it's hard for a wholesale outlet to sound exciting.
