Second set of investigative materials from plane crash brought to Poland

Yesterday Gen. Krzysztof Parulski, head of the Military District Prosecutor’s Office received the second set of awaited documents from Russian officials on the Smolensk plane crash catastrophe. The 11-volume packet included reports from witness statements and interviews, a video of the burning wreckage taken via cell phone, pictures taken at the scene of the crash, and forensics evidence of victim’s remains.

Poland is still expecting to receive autopsy results, after the Russian investigators complete the autopsies of the last four victims, whose remains were found in the cockpit: the two pilots, a navigator, and an additional person believed to be General Andrzej BÅ‚asik, commander of the Polish Air Force.

The first six volumes of evidence related to the crash were given to Poland in June. Russian Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Zvyagintsev promised that the next packet of evidence can be expected within the coming month. It has still not been agreed upon whether Polish investigators will be able to conduct their own questioning of Russian witnesses, as according to standard procedure, the Russian side has been conducting the interviews with a member of the Polish investigative team present.
