Cheap Flights a Hit in Poland

Can the Polish State Railways compete with LOT?
Starting 1 July LOT began to offer inexpensive domestic flights. Selling more than 18,000 tickets in the last few weeks, it has become quite the rival for PKP. Starting at 79 złoty, air passengers can fly from Katowice, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Poznań and Rzeszów to another domestic airport. Flights out of Krakow, Warsaw, and Szczecin begin at 99 złoty.
The LOT press office stated that there are 100,000 cheap tickets allotted through the end of 2010. The special fares are only available for customers purchasing tickets on lot.com.
LOT offers cheaper prices for similar routes and cuts travel times significantly. Unless PKP improves its services, it looks like they may be facing even more difficult times ahead.
