New exhibition looks at decades of monumental works of the artist

Born in 1930, Magdalena Abakanowicz has lived through dramatic changes in Polish history, and became a force in the Polish art scene of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Known for her innovative use of fabrics in sculptures, she even invented her own technique, dubbed "Abakan", of creating sculptures that tore themselves from the walls.

Tonight, an exhibition of her work, compiled over several decades, opens at the National Museum in Krakow. The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures and workshops for both adults and children throughout June, July and August. The exhibition will run until 29 August 2010.
