Highlishts include Strauss operetta, Theatre Night

The premier of Strauss’s The Gypsy Baron on Saturday 19 June will be one of the main events during this year’s Krakow Opera Summer Festival, according to the organisers.

The operetta, directed by Laco Adamik, promises to wow audiences with its complex and demanding vocal parts and colorful characters. The Kakow Opera's Orchestra, Choir and Ballet, under the musical direction of Tomasz Tokarczyk and Sebastian Jan Perłowski, will accompany the performance. Main soloists include Dorota Laskowiecka and Ewa Vesin as Saffi and Adam Sobierajski and Adam Zdunikowski as Sandor Barinkay. Subsequent performances are set for Sunday (20), Tuesday (22), and Wednesday (23).

The XIV edition of the Festival will commence during Krakow’s Theatre Night on 18 June. The Krakow Opera, like other such venues in Krakow, plans a night filled with many attractions. From a ballet performance to a demonstration of a vocal lesson for soloists (with audience participation), visitors will not only experience the show but have behind-the-scenes access.

Besides the Krakow Opera, located on ul. Lubicz 48, other festival venues will include the arcaded courtyard of Wawel Castle, where the International Ballet Gala (28 June) and The Best of Opera Arias (27 and 29 June) will be performed, and St. Kinga’s Chapel in the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which will resonate with Mozart’s Coronation Mass on 2 and 3 July.

The Czech ensemble, Slezské Divadlo Opava, will return as special guests again this year, performing La bohème on 25 June.

The XIV Krakow Opera Summer Festival will conclude on 8 July.
