Despite scorching temperatures, horse carriages still trotting along

Are carriage drivers breaking their agreement with the city? Despite double digit temperatures in Krakow, horses on the Market Square are still being forced to work for their hay. Carriage drivers say they will gladly park their carriages somewhere in the shade and give their horses a break as long as they have a thermometer that tells them that it is, in fact, too hot.

The city of Krakow is set to install a thermometer on the Sukiennice this summer, but until it is in place, carriage drivers will decide for themselves when to stop working. According to the agreement signed last summer, a carriage cannot stand on the square between noon and 5 pm, when temperatures reach their maximum. In the next few days temperatures could reach over 30 degrees Celsius, but only time will tell if the drivers feel the heat.
