Krakow native Agnieszka Radwańska was eliminated from the world’s premiere clay-court tennis event in a surprising upset against unseeded Yaroslava Shvedova. Radwanska was seeded eighth but was definitively outplayed by her Kazakh opponent, losing 7-5, 6-3.
As the match turned against her, Radwańska grew disgusted with comments from the sidelines from her father and coach Robert Radwański, turning her back on him at one point and snapping at him to keep his observations to himself. The incident has drawn criticism for the 21-year-old’s maturity as a competitor.
The number eight seed was Radwańska’s first top ten seed in a Grand Slam event.
