Second International Festival of Artistic Tapestry

Last year, local artist Professor Lilla Kulka submitted a proposal to the Krakow Division of the Polish Artists and Designers Association to organize an tapestry exhibition.

The result was the launch of the International Festival of Artistic Tapestry.
In its first year of existence, the event had all the pleasantries and quirks one would expect from a low budget local initiative. This year, however, the exhibition has blossomed into a large-scale event featuring tapestry artists from Poland and abroad. A jury of 80 artists will preside over the event from countries such as Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, India, Ireland, Israel, Slovakia, the U.S. and Ukraine.

The Second International Festival of Artistic Tapestry, ?Structures of Connections,? maintains last year?s goal to present and nurture innovative and experimental attitudes toward tapestry. The name of the event, ?Structures of Connections,? emphasizes the pioneering spirit of the tapestry artists as they explore imaginative variations of the shapes, materials and arrangements traditionally used in textile design.

In addition to presenting the works of talented young artists, the organizers have invited special guest Magdalena Abakanowicz, whose monumental sculptural weaving revolutionized the field through its introduction of ?soft sculpture.?
The collections will be exhibited on both floors of the Palace of the Fine Arts of the Friends Society (Rynek Szczpeanski 3).
