‘To men writing poems declaring their love’ by Christina Bednarski

To men writing poems declaring their love:
I’m not the sort a poet writes about.
I’d not believe it,
Probably laugh.

When I read a poem to some beauty,
My envy’s tempered by a little pity

She never asked for all those pretty words.
She may believe them,
Wouldn’t laugh.
