Second Fatal Stabbing in Krakow in Two Weeks

A 23-year-old man was fatally stabbed on ul. Grodzka in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim, a student at the Jagiellonian University, had been out with his fiancee and friends celebrating his birthday when the attack occurred at 2:20 am.

According to a Małopolska Police spokesperson, there was a brief altercation between the victim and an older man, who then pulled out a knife and struck the student in the chest. He died in hospital hours later.

The attack was witnessed by urban monitoring camera operators, who alerted police and gave a description of the attacker. Within minutes, a man matching the description and with blood on his hands and clothes was arrested on ul. Lubicz.

On Sunday, the 35-year-old man arrested pled not guilty to a charge of murder.

Cracovians have been leaving floral tributes, candles and notes of remembrance at the corner where the fatal attack happened.

This is the second fatal stabbing in Krakow in two weeks. Last weekend, a 36-year-old man was killed in a knife attack at a nightclub in the city.

May your soul now be at peace Dawid. Such a tragic waste of life. I hope the absolutely disgusting thug can live with his actions for the rest of his life and that he rots in jail. I hope also that the Polish justice system brings justice to the families that have suffered this senseless loss.
