Cooling off as Krakow Cooks

As temperatures soared into the high 30s on Saturday, the city’s emergency services sprang into action to bring some relief, and fun, to baked Cracovians.

Tankers provided fresh drinking water to all-comers on the Rynek Główny, courtesy of the municipal water authority – popularly known as ‘Wodociągi’ (literally ‘water pullers’).

Around the corner, the local fire brigade (straż pożarna) hooked their hoses up to hydrants and unleashed a refreshing deluge on the parched streets.

Stripped to their smalls or fully clothed, tourists and locals alike threw propriety to the wind and soaked themselves in fun.
