Auschwitz Museum Reopens, Flood Claims Sixth Victim

As the flood waters recede throughout southern Poland, the Auschwitz Museum has been partially opened to visitors today. However, about half of the Birkenau camp, the larger section of the museum complex, remains closed and submerged in flood waters. Museum officials are reporting no significant damage to the museum’s exhibitions or collections from the flood.

However, the flood claimed a sixth victim today, a 67-year-old man near Bielsko-Biała who was found in a stream. While rain is expected through tomorrow, officials say that the worst of the heavy rainfall is over and water levels should continue to drop.
