The 11th Viva Opera Festival, organized by the Krakow Opera, runs from July 3 to September 17, with performances every Tuesday and Friday.
?The Barbakan by Night? will take place on the Barbakan courtyard at 21:00. The concert?s program includes popular excerpts from operas and operettas of Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, Gounod, Moniuszko, Bizet, Puccini and Strauss.
?The Barbakan by Night? is part of a festival opened on June 23 with Karl Zeller?s opera ?The Bird Seller.? The show premiered with a warm reception at the end of April under artistic direction of Pawel Aigner. Three other festival performances took place at the Slowacki Theater:  Charles Gounod?s ?Faust? on June 28, Stanislaw Moniuszko?s ?The Haunted Manor? on June 29 and Johann Strauss? operetta, ?The Flying Bat? on June 30.  
The festival features soloists of the Krakow Opera and special guest singer, soprano Malgorzata Olejniczak, laureate of this year?s 6th Annual International Vocal Competition in Warsaw for young singers from around the world. She performed in Moniuszko?s opera ?The Haunted Manor.? On June 28 Janusz Zebrowski, an honored Polish tenor, celebrated the 50th anniversary of his career as a singer and artist. He began singing in Krakow in 1957 as the barber in ?The Barber of Seville? and has sung with Polish opera stars such as Iwona Borowicka and Wanda Polanska.
Soloists and orchestra of the Krakow Opera are also taking part in the concerts (soprano Ewa Biegas, mezzo-soprano Agnieszka Czastka, soprano Malgorzata Lesiewicz, soprano Katarzyna Oles-Blacha, soprano Karin Wiktor-Kalucka, mezzo-soprano Bozena Zawislak-Dolny, baritone Andrzej Biegun, baritone Przemyslaw Firek, tenor Vasyl Grokholskyi and tenor Adam Zdunikowski.) The orchestra is being conducted by Piotr Sulkowski.
