Wisła Loses Polish Championship

As the final whistle blew on Saturday, 15 May, Wisła Krakow’s second-place fate was sealed with Lech Poznań’s 2:0 victory over Zaglębie Lubin. The Wielkopolska team has won the Polish championship of the 2009/2010 season, leaving the Krakow team trailing in second.

At the same time, Wisła tied 1:1 with their own opponents, Odra Wodzisław. This means that while Lech will be entering next season’s UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round, Wisła will be entering the Europa League instead.

However, Lech’s win was not the only big news in Polish football. The 15 May match between Wisła Krakow and Odra Wodzisław was the first one to be broadcast in 3D. Select bars and cinemas in Krakow, Poznań and Warsaw showed the match using 3D technology.

The final match of the 09/10 season will take place this Saturday, as MKS Pogoń Szczecin and Jagiellonia Białystok meet.
