To the moon and back: Krakow city bike use breaks records in 2018

The second year of Krakow’s Wavelo public bike service broke its own records for use in 2018, according to a press release from the city.

Local bicyclists traveled around 3.6 million km on the city bikes in 2018 – about 10 trips to the Moon or 91 times around the Earth.

On the days with the most favorable weather, the 1,500 bikes were rented out as many as 7,700 times per day. Most trips were relatively short commutes of 2-3 km.

Due to Krakow’s endemic, severe smog and cluttered central traffic, the city has been keen to promote alternative means of travel.

The Wavelo website is in English, and there are several payment plans with special deals for students.
