Missing Mickiewicz Masterpiece Found

The leather-bound tome, a first edition of Pan Tadeusz by national bard Adam Mickiewicz, was printed in Paris in 1834. It was reported missing from the Łódż Municipal Library in 1983.

The book was identified when the current director of the library noticed that a copy of the book was on sale at an internet auction site.

Two men in their thirties have been questioned in relation to the sale of the book. The apparent initiator claims that he inherited the book from his grandmother. Given that he was only five years old when the book went missing, it is unlikely that he himself could have swiped the work. Police have decided to take no further action.
