AP Video: Dog Found Drifting on Ice Near Gdynia

A team of Polish researchers were quite surprised on Monday when their ship approached what they thought was a seal on the ice of the Baltic sea, only to find a stray dog floating on bits of ice 24 km from the shore.

The dog had been drifting since at least Saturday, when it was spotted floating up the Wisła near the town of Grudziadz, almost 100 km from the Bay of Gdansk. When the research team realised that the dog was stranded, they made efforts to rescue it, first unsuccessfully with a net, then finally succeeding by lowering a crew member in a platoon, who then grabbed the dog.

The researchers have nicknamed the dog “Baltic” after the sea it was rescued in, and are currently looking for its rightful owner.
