Krakow Opera Opens New Season

The 2009/2010 artistic season of the Krakow Opera will open with quite a spectacle, as Giacomo Puccini’s famous opera, Madame Butterfly, premieres tonight.

The opera tells the tragic story of a geisha and an American Navy officer. Cio-Cio-San marries the young lieutenant, and awaits his return full of hope, but eventually succumbs to the reality of the situation. Following the premiere on 25 September, the opera will be staged on the 26th, 27th, and 29th, and then in late November and 1 December. Tickets range between 25 and 140 złoty.
