Weekend Preview: A New Type of Music

Starting with OFF Festival at the beginning of the month and continuing with the Coke Live Music Festival last weekend, August has been an epic month for live music festivals in the Krakow area. Luckily, that trend will continue this weekend, because beginning on Friday, 28 August, the Tauron Nowa Muzyka (“New Music”) festival will begin in nearby Katowice. Beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday with Australian post-rockers Pivot, the night continues with Ebony Bones and The Bug amongst others. Saturday will see Swedish sweetheart Fever Ray (from The Knife) take the stage at midnight, surrounded by plenty of electronic talent both from Poland and abroad. Sunday’s highlights include Icelandic eclectic rock band Mum and Polish ambient magician Jacaszek.

Getting there: Katowice is just an hour and a half by train or roughly an hour and 15 minutes by car on the A4 highway from Krakow. For train schedules, see the PKP website: www.pkp.pl.
