Polish A4 Connected to Germany

Polish drivers on a weekend getaway to Germany got a pleasant surprise this weekend: the A4 motorway is (finally) finished. The newest part of the road was officially opened on 14 August.

The highway goes from Krakow to Dresden in Germany, where it joins the already well-developed German autobahn network. The last part to be constructed is a 51.4-kilometre segment from Krzyżowa to Zgorzelec in Western Poland.

In total, the highway took 28 months to build and cost 237 million euro, most of which came from European Union funds designated for the project. Now, drivers can travel the 421 km from Krakow to the German border entirely by highway.
