While Poland has an unfortunate history of discrimination against homosexuals, one PiS deputy has taken that discrimination to absurd levels. Michał Grzes has singled out an elephant at the Poznań Zoo, claiming that the creature is homosexual and may be a danger to other elephants.
“We didn’t pay 37 million złoty for the largest elephant house in Europe to have a gay elephant live there,” the politician told local media. The elephant allegedly has only sought the company of other bull elephants, and has been aggressive towards females. However, zoo authorities claim that the 10-year-old animal is simply too young to think about mating, as elephants do not reach sexual maturity until age 14. Ninio the elephant had no comment.
